Diploma of Higher Education in Operating Department Practice is a collaboration program with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), UK.

PROGRAM DETAILS

To introduce the student to the basic concepts and principles underpinning surgical and anesthetic practice

To enable students to demonstrate responsibility for their own learning and recognize when further learning may be required. To enable students to demonstrate literacy and computer skills to record, enter, store and retrieve information. Learning activities comprise of supported e-learning and facilitated learning. Personal development planning activity will promote life-long learning skills

This practice module enables students to demonstrate proficiency in two major aspects of clinical practice; health and safety at work and patient safety in relation to receiving, transferring and positioning patients for clinical procedures.

This course exposes students to the basic concepts in Islam which is the official religion in Malaysia. Topics in this course also relate the importance and influence of Islam to society in everyday life. In addition, students are able to embrace the values and appreciation of religion in themselves and train themselves in solving the problems and issues of the Islamic world

To develop students understanding of how each perioperative role function contributes to the management of patient care. The module also introduces students to the basic principles of pharmacology and facilitates their understanding of the terminology used in operating department practice.

This module aims to facilitate students to assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the care of individual surgical patients

This practice module enables the student to demonstrate proficiency in responding to patient care needs and in the preparation and monitoring of materials and equipment for clinical procedures. Written reflections on practice learning will be assessed formatively

The module aims to facilitate students understanding of the pharmacological effects of anesthetic agents, gasses and applied scientific principles in relation to anesthetic practice. The examinations will be staggered

To provide an introduction to the principles of law and ethics. This module is assessed by a scenario based essay

This practice module enables the student to become proficient at handling drugs and monitoring their effects on patients. The module also facilitates students to become proficient at supporting, monitoring and caring for patients during clinical procedures.

Introduction of Malaysian society, historical and political process in Malaysia. Introduction to government policies and the element of traditional in Federal Constitution

The module provides a controlled environment for students to acquire and practice skills for Basic Life Support and techniques for administering drugs via various injection methods: students are to demonstrate practical skills in a workshop environment (OSCE)

To develop the necessary skills and expertise that will allow students to identify the nature of knowledge which informs perioperative practice, to raise awareness of research and to access the body of knowledge.

This practice module enables the student to become proficient in caring for patients during immediate recovery from surgery and anesthesia and when handing over the care of the patients to others. The module also facilitates students to become proficient at dealing with clinical emergencies

This module seeks to further develop students’ personal effectiveness and autonomy in seeking and critiquing the evidence base

To enhance the students’ transferable skills. To facilitate the students to apply enhanced transferable skills through work and personal development activity

This module will enable the students to explore issues of quality and risk governance. It will consider the key concepts contained within the area of clinical governance and determine the ways in which they can be addressed.

This module intends to further the student’s basic knowledge and skills and to transfer these into a negotiated area of specialized perioperative practice. The portfolio of competency must attain a pass grade and assesses all learning outcomes.

To facilitate the development of leadership skills within the perioperative environment. To define the theories of leadership and their effectiveness in motivating, leading teams and influencing change for quality care within the perioperative environment This module is designed to empower the student to lead and direct others in the provision of perioperative practice

To enable students to develop approaches to support and assess learners in operating department practice. To enable practitioners to apply evidence based practice to promote the development of self and others

To continue to provide the student with opportunities to broaden existing knowledge and clinical skills within a negotiated specialized area of perioperative practice, particularly relating to management and problem solving This module intends to further the student’s basic knowledge and skills and to transfer these into a negotiated area of specialized perioperative practice. The portfolio of competency must attain a pass grade and assesses all learning outcomes.

This course provides students with basic knowledge about the process of decision-making skills and behaviors wisely and efficiently. This includes giving students an understanding of some decision-making approach based on decision-making models selected. Aspects that influence decision-making as a value, needs and goals as well as an element of uncertainty is also discussed. In addition, religion and religious factors, experience, environment, cognitive, psychological, ethical and individual personalities also taken into account in decision making.

Community Service programme with the aim to create opportunities for students to mingle, interact and work with various new village communities outside the cities with the aim to create meaningful social changes
